The leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) intensified on Friday as a faction loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, removed Senator Adolphus Wabara as Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) and appointed former Senator Mao Ohuabunwa in his place.
The faction also named Hon. Isah Dansidi as Secretary of the BoT, replacing Senator Ahmed Makarfi. The announcement was made in Abuja by the faction’s Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed.
In a communique jointly signed by Ohuabunwa and Dansidi, the group said Wabara and Makarfi had publicly taken sides in the ongoing intra-party conflict, which it claimed compromised their neutrality and moral authority to continue leading the BoT.
“The Board unanimously approved the election of Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, who, like Senator Adolphus Wabara, hails from the South, and Hon. Isah Dansidi, who, like Senator Ahmed Makarfi, hails from the North, as the Chairman and Secretary of the newly constituted Board of Trustees respectively,” the communique stated.
While thanking the outgoing officials for their contributions, the faction urged PDP members to demonstrate maturity, mutual respect, and commitment to party unity despite current tensions.
It reiterated its dedication to strengthening internal democracy, transparency, inclusiveness, and adherence to the Nigerian Constitution, Electoral Act, INEC guidelines, and the PDP constitution.
The faction insisted that only genuine reconciliation and cooperation would guarantee sustainable peace and progress within the opposition party.
