The Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Lady Valerie Fubara, has urged children in the state to remain obedient, disciplined and respectful, describing good character as the foundation for a brighter future and effective citizenship.

Lady Fubara gave the charge on Friday, December 26, 2025, during a special Christmas party organised for children at the Government House, Port Harcourt, as part of activities marking the 2025 Christmas celebrations.

Addressing the children, she encouraged them to stay focused on their education and personal development, stressing that discipline, diligence and commitment to positive values would help them grow into responsible leaders and worthy ambassadors of Rivers State.

She explained that the Christmas party was organised to celebrate the children, show them love and give them a sense of belonging during the festive season. Lady Fubara also called on the children to continually pray for peace, unity and sustained progress in Rivers State as the year 2026 approaches.

The governor’s wife further advised the children to be obedient to their parents, respectful to elders and responsible in their use of electronic gadgets, noting that good behaviour should be upheld both at home and in public places.

“I pray that God will keep us in good health and usher us safely into 2026, and that we will continue to come together in love and unity to celebrate and support one another,” she said.

The event attracted top government functionaries, including the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Prof. Mrs. Ngozi Nma Odu; the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh; the Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi Brown; Permanent Secretaries; and other senior government officials.

The high point of the celebration was the cutting of the special Christmas cake by Lady Valerie Fubara, which drew cheers and excitement from the children in attendance.
